Sales Description
Christmas Moss is one of the most popular and attractive aquarium mosses, named for its distinctive branching pattern that resembles the layered shape of a Christmas tree. Its rich green coloration and naturally cascading growth make it an excellent choice for attaching to driftwood, rocks, bonsai trees, and other hardscape elements. When established, it creates a lush, natural appearance that adds texture and depth to any aquascape.
Sold in sterile tissue culture form, this moss is completely free of algae, snails, and unwanted pests. Tissue culture plants are ideal for shrimp tanks and high-end aquascapes where cleanliness is essential. Each cup contains multiple portions that can be divided and attached throughout the aquarium.
Care Guide
Christmas Moss is a hardy and adaptable plant that thrives under low to medium lighting, making it suitable for both beginner and advanced aquarists. While COâ‚‚ injection is not required, it can significantly improve growth rate, density, and overall health.
This moss does not need to be planted in the substrate. Instead, it should be attached to driftwood, rocks, mesh, or decorative structures using thread, fishing line, or aquarium-safe glue. Over time, the moss will naturally anchor itself to the surface and continue spreading.
Ideal water parameters include temperatures between 68–80°F (20–27°C), a pH of 5.5–7.5, and soft to moderately hard water. Slightly cooler temperatures often encourage denser and more compact growth. Good water circulation helps keep the moss clean and promotes healthy development.
Regular trimming is recommended to maintain its layered appearance and prevent debris buildup. Trimmed portions can be reattached elsewhere in the aquarium to create additional moss-covered areas.
Benefits for Shrimp and Fry
Christmas Moss is highly valued in shrimp and breeding aquariums because it provides excellent shelter for baby shrimp and fish fry. Its dense branching structure also supports biofilm and microorganisms, offering a natural grazing surface and supplemental food source.
